An electrocardiogram is a recording of the heart’s electrical activity as a graph or series of wave lines on a moving strip of paper or video monitor. Then test measures the size, timing and character of the electrical impulses traveling through the heart. This allows the physician to detect heart’s rate, hythm and certain cardiac problems. Electrical activity that is fast, slow or otherwise abnormal can suggest various heart irregularities, disease and damage.
Conditions diagnosed using electrocardiograms:
Coronary artery disease: A disease in which blood flow to the heart and body is restricted due to blockage of the arteries.
Two- dimensional echocardiography can provide excellent images of the heart, paracardiac structures, and the great vessels. During a standard echo, the sound waves are directed to the heart from a small hand-held device called a transducer, which sends and receives signals. Heart walls and valves reflect part of the sound waves back to the transducer to produce pictures of the heart. These images appear in black and white or color on a TV screen. They are selectively recorded on videotape and special paper, and reviewed and interpreted by a cardiologist( heart specialist) From the pictures it is possible to measure the size of each part of your heart, to study motion and appearance of the valves and the function of the heart.
A stress test is primary used to identify coronary artery disease. It requires patients to exercise on a treadmill or exercise bicycle while their heart rate, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (ECG), and symptoms are monitored.
The body requires more oxygen exercise than at rest. To deiver more oxygen during exercise, the heart has to pump ore oxygen-rich blood. Because of the increased stress on the heart, exercise can reveal coronary problems that are not apparent when the body is practical coronary test.
The stress test is particularly useful for detecting ischemia ( inadequate supply of blood to the heart muscle) caused by blocked coronary arteries.
A holter monitor is a small, battery-powered medical device that measures your heart’s activity, such as rate and rhythm. Your doctor may ask you to use one if they need more information about how your heart functions than a routine electrocardiogram (EKG) can give them.
Twenty-four hour holter monitoring is a continuous test to record your heart’s rate and rhythm for 24 hours. You ear the holter monitor for 12 to 48 hours as you go about your normal daily routine. This device has electrodes and electrical leads exactly like a regular EKG, but it has fewer leads. It can pick up not only your hearts rate and rhythm but also when you feel chest pains or exhibit symptoms of an rregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia.
Holter monitor testing is also sometimes called ambulatory electrocardiography. There are other types of devices that can be used to measure heart activity for longer periods of time.
TWENTY four hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is way of measuring and managing high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension is a blood pressure measurement in which the systolic (upper) blood pressure is at or above 140 and the diastolic (lower) blood pressure is at or above 90.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring allows many blood pressure (BP) readings to be recorded over a 24-hour period, whether the patient is awake or asleep. At a doctor’s office or clinic, an instrument called a sphygmomanometer is used to take BP readings. Usually, only one or two readings are taken during a doctor;s visit. However, ambulatory BP monitoring yields many readings over a continuous period.
In most cases, with ambulatory BP monitors, readings are taken every 20 to30 minutes during the day and every hour at night. The heart rate can also be measured at the same time.
Multiple BP readings can be averaged over the 24-hour period to obtain the mean or average BP. Variations in BP and heart rate, the BP and heart rate, the BP distribution pattern, and other statistics can be calculated.
Uroflowmetry
Urine flow rate or urinary flow rate is the volumetric flow rate of urine during urination. It is a measure of the quantity of urine excreted in a specified period of time. It is measured with uroflowmetry, a type of flowmetry.
Audiometry is the term used to describe formal measurement of hearing. The measurement is usually performed using an ‘’audiometer’’ by an “audiometery’’. Audiometry is a subjective test—it is not an objective measurement. It depends on people pushing a button or raising their hand, when they hear a tone. Co-operation is needed.

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test used to find problems related to electrical activity of the brain. An EEG tracks and records brain wave patterns. Small metal discs with thin wires (electrodes) are placed on the scalp, and then send signals to a computer to record the results.
Prepare for an EEG?
Before the test, you should take the following steps: Wash your hair the night before the EEG, and don’t put any products ( like sprays or gels) in your hair on the day of the test. Ask your doctor if you should stop taking any medications before the test.
A nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) is an electrical test that is used to determine the adequacy of the conduction of the nerve impulse as it courses down a nerve. This test is used to detect signs of nerve injury.
